48 Hours in Praiano: The Perfect Amalfi Coast Escape

Two slow days of village walks, seaside lunches, cooking classes, boat trips and sunsets on the quiet side of the Amalfi Coast

The Church of San Gennaro in Praiano with its majolica-tiled dome and bell tower overlooking the sea of the Amalfi Coast

If you are looking for a quieter way to experience the Amalfi Coast, Praiano is the perfect place to slow down.

Set between Positano and the Amalfi Coast's most famous landmarks, Praiano combines spectacular sea views, traditional streets, delicious food and unforgettable sunsets. While you could easily spend a week here, 48 hours is enough to discover some of the experiences that make Praiano so special.

Here is how we would spend two perfect days in this beautiful coastal village.

Day 1: Discover Praiano from Land and Sea

Morning: Explore the Village

Start your first morning with a relaxed breakfast before exploring the streets of Praiano.

Take your time walking through the village, discovering its small lanes, traditional architecture and panoramic viewpoints. One of the pleasures of Praiano is that there is no need to rush from one attraction to another. Simply walking through the village can become part of the experience.

As you explore, you'll quickly understand why Praiano is one of the most beautiful places to experience the quieter side of the Amalfi Coast.

We truly recommend visiting the Church of San Gennaro, one of Praiano's main landmarks, known for the beautiful and colorful majolica tiles decorating the square. From here, you can also enjoy stunning views of Positano, Capri's Faraglioni, and the Li Galli Islands — a perfect spot for photos.

Lunch by the Sea

By late morning, it's time to head towards the water.

At La Gavitella Restaurant & Beach Club, you can spend the day surrounded by the Mediterranean, enjoying a relaxed lunch with spectacular coastal views.

Take a swim, enjoy the sunshine and sit down for a leisurely Italian lunch. This is the Amalfi Coast at its best: good food, beautiful scenery and plenty of time to enjoy both. Don't miss the chance to try the traditional "Totani e Patate", squid and potatoes, a historic local recipe rooted in Praiano's fishing tradition and a true taste of the Amalfi Coast.

Afternoon: Relax by the Mediterranean

One of the advantages of spending two days in Praiano is that you don't have to fit everything into a single afternoon.

Stay by the sea and enjoy a few hours of swimming and relaxation. From La Gavitella Beach, the views towards the coastline are particularly beautiful, offering a completely different perspective from the village above.

If you want to combine gastronomy with a day by the sea, discover our Cooking Class, Lunch & Beach Day, an experience that brings together Italian cooking, local food and time at the beach.

Sunset in Praiano

As the afternoon comes to an end, stay for one of the experiences Praiano is famous for: sunset.

Praiano is one of the few towns on the Amalfi Coast where you can enjoy the sun until late in the evening. In July, the sun sets around 8:30 PM, making the summer days feel wonderfully long.

In September, the sun sets a little earlier, but the sunsets become even more beautiful, with the sky turning shades of pink and orange over the coastline.

Enjoy an aperitivo overlooking the Mediterranean with a classic Aperol Spritz or a refreshing Lemon Spritz, the perfect Italian way to end the day.

Day 2: Taste the Amalfi Coast

Morning: Learn to Cook Like an Italian

Your second day is the perfect opportunity to discover another important part of local culture: Italian food.

At La Gavitella, our cooking experiences allow you to get hands-on and learn how to prepare traditional Italian dishes with our local chefs.

You can learn the secrets behind fresh pasta, including ravioli and tagliatelle, as well as the classic Italian dessert tiramisù.

Discover our Ravioli, Tagliatelle & Tiramisù Cooking Class and enjoy an experience that combines food, tradition and the beautiful setting of Praiano.

Lunch: Enjoy What You Have Created

After cooking, it's time for the best part: sitting down and enjoying your meal.

There's something special about eating food you've prepared yourself, especially when you're doing it overlooking the Amalfi Coast.

Take your time, enjoy the flavours and make the most of the afternoon.

Afternoon: Discover the Coast from the Water

A great way to spend an afternoon in Praiano is with a half-day boat tour along the Amalfi Coast.

Praiano has two main docks, La Gavitella and Marina di Praia. You can depart from either one, depending on which is more convenient from where you are staying.

During an afternoon boat tour, you will have the chance to admire the Amalfi Coast from the sea and see some of its most iconic landmarks, including the Fiordo di Furore, the Emerald Grotto in Conca dei Marini, Amalfi, Atrani, and Positano from the sea.

Along the way, you can stop for a swim and snorkel in the crystal-clear waters of the coast.

Your Final Aperitivo

Before your 48 hours in Praiano come to an end, make time for one final aperitivo by the sea.

For something different, you can also join our Pizza & Gelato Cooking Class, where you can learn to prepare Pizza and Ice Cream from scratch while enjoying the spectacular surroundings.

Praiano or Positano?

If you're planning an Amalfi Coast holiday, you may be wondering whether to stay in Praiano or Positano.

Positano is famous for its lively atmosphere, boutiques and iconic cliffside views. Praiano offers a slower and more relaxed experience, making it ideal for travellers who want to enjoy the sea, local food and the beauty of the coast without constantly being on the move.

And the best part? You don't necessarily have to choose.

The two villages are close enough to visit both, especially if you take to the water.

Make the Most of Your 48 Hours

The secret to enjoying Praiano isn't trying to see everything.

It's about slowing down and enjoying the moments in between: a morning walk through the village, a long lunch by the sea, a swim in the Mediterranean, fresh pasta made by hand and a sunset with a glass of something cold in your hand.

In just 48 hours, you can discover the flavours, landscapes and traditions that make this corner of the Amalfi Coast unforgettable.
