5 Things to do in Praiano

The pearl of the Amalfi Coast

La Gavitella Restaurant

Praiano is a charming and authentic village on the Amalfi Coast, rich in beauty, culture, and breathtaking views. If you're planning a visit, here are 5 must-do experiences that will make you fall in love with this little corner of paradise.

1. Soak up the unique atmosphere of La Gavitella – beach club and restaurant
La Gavitella Beach enjoys a rare west-facing exposure, allowing it to bask in sunlight until sunset, a true luxury on the Amalfi Coast. The warm afternoon light and the colors of the sky at dusk create a magical atmosphere, perfect for relaxing and taking in the view.

The beach is accessible via a scenic staircase that winds through panoramic viewpoints, or more comfortably by sea. It's an ideal spot for those seeking crystal-clear waters, peace and quiet, and a postcard-perfect setting away from the crowds.

After a refreshing swim, stop by the seaside restaurant, where traditional Campanian dishes are served using fresh, seasonal, and locally sourced ingredients. The menu celebrates the authentic flavors of the Mediterranean, with seafood specialties, homemade pasta, fragrant side dishes, and classic desserts. Everything is accompanied by carefully selected wines or handcrafted cocktails, to be enjoyed in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Whether for a leisurely lunch by the water or a sunset aperitivo, La Gavitella is a place that captures both heart and soul.

2. Join a cooking class with a sea view
Cooking is one of the most authentic ways to connect with local culture, and on the Amalfi Coast, every dish tells a story steeped in tradition and genuine flavors. A cooking class at La Gavitella, led by a local chef, offers the opportunity to learn how to handcraft traditional dishes such as ravioli, tagliatelle, and local desserts, using fresh, zero-kilometer ingredients: fragrant lemons, extra virgin olive oil, seasonal vegetables, and Mediterranean herbs.

The lesson takes place on a stunning panoramic terrace overlooking the sea, right at La Gavitella, in an enchanting setting that makes the experience even more special and relaxing.

This activity is perfect for couples, friends, or families seeking to share an authentic moment, learn something new, and bring home not only recipes but also an unforgettable memory of the Amalfi Coast.

During the class, the chef shares anecdotes and stories related to the history and traditions of the local cuisine, turning the experience into a true cultural journey as well as a culinary one.

3. A day at sea along the Amalfi Coast
Among all the experiences to enjoy in Praiano, a boat tour is without a doubt one of the most unforgettable. Seeing the Amalfi Coast from the sea means admiring spectacular landscapes from a unique perspective: towering cliffs plunging into the water, pastel-colored houses clinging to the rocks, hidden caves, and small coves accessible only by boat.

With Positano Boats, you can depart directly from Praiano to explore the wonders of the coastline. The tours will take you to iconic locations such as Positano, Amalfi, the Emerald Grotto, and even the elegant island of Capri, with its famous Faraglioni rock formations and turquoise waters.

You can choose the experience that suits you best: a private tour for a more intimate and relaxing time, a group trip to share the excitement with fellow travelers, or a romantic sunset cruise, when the coastline is bathed in golden light and everything feels even more magical. If you have more time, opt for a full-day tour and enjoy the sea to the fullest, with swimming, sunbathing, and wonder.

During the cruise, you’ll have the chance to stop and swim in quiet coves far from the crowds, listen to stories and anecdotes shared by the skippers, toast with a glass of Prosecco, and take postcard-perfect photos.

An experience that blends relaxation, adventure, and beauty, the perfect way to enjoy the Amalfi Coast from an authentic and privileged point of view.

4. Hike on the Path of the Gods
The Path of the Gods is one of the most beautiful hiking trails in the world. It offers amazing views, nature, and peace. From Praiano, you can reach the trail by climbing a staircase that leads to Bomerano, a village in Agerola and the perfect starting point.

Along the way, you’ll see the sea, green mountains, and small villages built into the rocks. It feels like walking between the sky and the sea, surrounded by nature.

The hike is about 7 km and ends in Nocelle, a small village above Positano. From there, you can walk down (about 1,700 steps) or take a local bus to the center of Positano.

The trail is well marked and good for beginners too, as long as you wear comfortable shoes and bring water, a hat, and a camera.

It’s best to start early in the morning, especially in summer, to enjoy cooler weather and better light.

5. Visit to the Church of San Gennaro
In the heart of Praiano, overlooking one of the most scenic terraces on the Amalfi Coast, stands the beautiful Church of San Gennaro, a true landmark for anyone visiting the town. The current building was constructed in 1589 on the ruins of an older church and was completed in 1602.

The church, built in Renaissance style, has a Latin cross layout with three aisles. Its most recognizable feature is the colorful majolica-tiled dome, visible from afar, which has become one of the symbols of Praiano.

Inside, you can admire several decorated altars with works of art, including a painting commemorating the Battle of Lepanto, a signed 1747 canvas dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, and a beautiful fresco of Calvary with a crucifix donated as a votive offering. Even if you're not an expert in art or history, the atmosphere inside feels authentic and full of spiritual meaning.

The square in front of the church is perfect for an evening stroll, perhaps with a gelato in hand, as the sun sets over the sea.
